Slept well and woke up around 5am. Then I packed up and went down to breakfast around 6:30. Unfortunately there were no pancakes and no cake. There were “only” 2 different juices. So on the one hand I can understand that, since it's off-season and it feels like there are 2 or 3 other guests in the whole hotel, but I chose the hotel because of the good selection at breakfast, among other things. Even had to ask for milk because the jug wasn't refilled. But I still made myself two large cereals and a few slices of toast with jam and egg. And after 3 coffees I was of course satisfied. Then I packed my things and checked out. Then I went to the main square, Plaza de Armas, and sunbathed for two hours. I actually wanted to go to the cathedral, but since it's mass, you can't go in and after that it wasn't possible. So I went back to the hotel and made my way to the airport. It is an hour away on foot. I could have taken the bus, but I have time and the path wasn't steep. And there were a few nice spots along the way. I was in Tupac Amura Park, which is really nice, but unfortunately there was a market at the time and so it was full. Then I passed a few sculptures and also a large shopping center. If I hadn't had my suitcase with me, I would have gone in. So I went ahead and chose a local restaurant, but unfortunately it was closed. So I spontaneously moved on and went to another restaurant.
Basically it's a good thing that I got a SIM card, but that meant I was always googling the restaurants, which might not be a bad thing so you don't get food poisoning. But I mean, I know myself that the reviews aren't always right and yet I let them trigger me. I only got the SIM card after a week and before that I looked out a few spots in the accommodation and when they were closed, I spontaneously looked for something else. I had already spent two weeks on vacation in Istanbul with a friend and left my cell phone at home. The first few days were strange, but after that it was a great feeling. I realize that it depends a bit on the cell phone, but with the sim I was able to use the long car and bus rides to write the blog and otherwise pass the time. Looking back, I didn't really need the SIM card, although once I had to let them know when I was driving to the meeting point while I was on the move. That was at the accommodation in Puno on Lake Titicaca. It would have made sense if I had gone on trips or hikes alone. Or the one accommodation during the hike in the Golden Canyon. There was no internet there. OK, the reception was very poor there, but you could use it a little. I'll have to see how I handle this in the future, but I definitely want to turn off my cell phone usage in everyday life and not answer my cell phone immediately after getting up. I'm trying to do something during the days in Lima, of course, but also to reflect on my vacation and write down and specify my goals for the future. And I want to finish reading my book.
After the short break I went to the Café de Paris. A really nice cafe. I actually just wanted to order a coffee, but when I saw the burger on the menu there was no other option. Of course I have to say that the expectations for the burger were rather low since it was a breakfast/ice cream/sweets place, but besides burgers they also had other hot dishes on the menu. I chose the Royal Burger and would not be disappointed. The burger bun was soft and kind of broich. There was also a fried egg on the burger. The meat was tasty, even though it was almost done. The fries were very tasty and also enough. Definitely better than yesterday at the store where they only had burgers and sandwiches. The service was friendly and I even got some tea. Afterwards I got another scoop of ice cream and went to the airport. Took a while because the road to the airport is under construction. But I was there more than on time. I checked in my suitcase and am now writing my blog and enjoying the time before the flight. Luckily I booked a window seat. So I'm hoping for a nice flight, although I think it'll only last a little more than an hour. In Lima I'll just go for accommodation and then probably not do much else.
I'll be in touch tonight and tomorrow.
