Today we went over to Rügen. Instead of following the original Baltic Sea cycle path over the Rügen dam, we took the ferry to Altefähr. We had already cycled part of the route from there a few years ago. I remembered it as being very unpleasant to cycle on - and unfortunately that was confirmed. Cracked, wavy asphalt, mud holes in narrow unpaved tracks, overhanging bushes, it had everything. The path was not subject to entertainment tax. After 10 km, however, it got much better again. We had chosen Schaprode as our destination for the day, mainly because we had found suitable accommodation there, which was not easy. But it was only 65 km, so we were there by midday. So we added a short trip to Hiddensee. Conveniently, the ferry goes directly from Schaprode to Vitte on Hiddensee. Here we cycled from Vitte harbor to the lighthouse on the northern tip of the island. In contrast to last year, when it was completely covered in scaffolding, you could admire the lighthouse in its full size. Afterwards we went back to Vitte on the other side of the island (there aren't many other options here). On the way we made a short stop at a beach bar for a coffee and a Swedish cup (local ice cream speciality). Then we took the ferry back to Schaprode.
