Day 41 Rhinos and Hyenas

Გამოქვეყნდა: 20.05.2017

In this region, there are a few black rhinos. We signed up for a rhino trekking today. We drove to a water source where ranchers found fresh rhino tracks.

For us, that meant getting out of the vehicle and following the tracks on foot. It is important to always approach rhinos against the wind. If they smell you, they will disappear. Since black rhinos are also much more aggressive than white rhinos, we did not approach them closer than 100 meters when we found them.

We left before sunrise to be near the animals at sunrise.

We were lucky and found 3 rhinos sleeping in the cover of bushes.

When the rangers approached and the mother rhino caught their scent, they fled.

Unfortunately, half in our direction. That meant for us to also run, and that is behind the nearest bush for cover.

However, the rhinos were not interested in us, but rather in getting away as quickly as possible.

That was an experience.

On the way back to the campsite, we encountered a family of giraffes.

We spent the afternoon lounging and sunbathing. Then at 3:00 pm, we went on another game drive.

And then we finally saw some. We had heard them many times, but had never seen them before. The hyenas.

For me, that was a very successful game drive, even though we didn't see much otherwise.

The landscape here in Palmwag is simply unique.
