Mont Lozère

Mont-Lozère is a vast granite ridge in the core zone of the Parc National des Cévennes . The mountain is known for the presence of several species and habitats that have their only location here between the Alps and the Pyrenees. It consists of several high plateaus and offers extensive views of the Cévennes, the Aigoual and the Causses. The massif reaches its highest point at 1699 meters on the Sommet de Finiels. About five kilometers further east of this summit lies the source of the Tarn.

We reach the Sommet de Finiels after a hike that is not too strenuous, because first you drive to the Col de Finiels, the highest pass in the Cévennes. And from the car park it is then just a good hour's hike up to the summit. What we see there is once again overwhelming. A view that is impressive and cannot really be described in words or pictures. A strong, freshening wind blows until midday - hence the buttoned-up jackets and the disheveled hair - but then it dies down and the perceived temperature rises a little. We meet a few more specimens of the human species here than on our other hikes. But it is still far from being crowded. And of course the obligatory egg should be packed in the backpack as provisions on this hike too.

PS: The quality of the photos leaves something to be desired this time, because unfortunately the battery for the camera was left behind in the caravan and I have to make do with my cell phone...
