Day trip to Salamanca

In order to achieve my goal of seeing as much of Spain as possible during my semester abroad, I went to Salamanca on Saturday, March 10th with a few people. This relatively small city in the northwest is known for its university founded in the 12th century, which shapes the entire cityscape.

Accordingly, Salamanca has a lot to offer visually, with impressive buildings found on every corner of the city center. There is even a 'Plaza Mayor' that is very similar to the one in Madrid.

Furthermore, there are many small bars and cafes, as befits a traditional student city, which we of course tested extensively. Especially when the currently strange Spanish weather decided to rain a little...

All in all, the day trip was definitely worth it. The unique architecture immediately makes you feel comfortable, although a weekend trip (which was our initial plan) would have been a bit too much for us city-dwellers accustomed to Madrid.

A tip: If you ever have to/want to/will travel with 'Avanza Bus', choose the express option. The buses are equipped with super comfortable seats and even have their own entertainment systems, and they may not be as expensive as you might think. We paid 21 euros in total for the round trip, which is completely fine for a total of 6 hours on the bus.
