Patagonia - Maggi conquers Ruta 40 and Carretera Austral

Unfortunately, the Argentinean part of Patagonia was also not a pleasure in terms of weather. The first few days were filled with constant rain. The only thing that helped against this bad-weather blues was a filet steak with fresh baguette and red wine 😉.

Then we drove south via the "Ruta de los Siete Lagos". This scenic road passes through two national parks and countless lakes. We made a short stop in the sleepy hippie village of El Boson. Afterwards, we headed towards Ruta 40, the longest road in the world. According to my smart travel guide, the road is 4885 kilometers long and stretches from Portugal to the Ural Mountains. Fortunately, most of our route was paved and the potholes were limited. Once again, we had to cross the Argentinean-Chilean border. All easy 😊.

The reason for this border hopping: Kai wanted to drive a section of the Carretera Austral. This is the equivalent of the Ruta 40 and runs through the Chilean part of Patagonia. This section was a real dream. Beautiful camping spots with an incredible panorama. One morning, dolphins visited us for breakfast. Amazing! The coolest thing was that we met super friendly and funny overlanders from Switzerland and Germany every day. With more tips and tricks, we now headed to Los Glaciares National Park in Argentina.
