Malignant without bears

Our first full day in Jasper NP and we went to Maligne Lake and later to the Canyon.

At night we had heavy thunderstorms and rain, but during the day the weather held up bravely and the sun even fought its way through at times.

At Maligne Lake we had actually planned a hiking tour to 'Opal Peak' - a great panoramic view is promised from there - but unfortunately we had to change our plans in the middle because the path was suddenly closed due to bears. So for now, we only had a smaller walk along the lake.

Later we made our way to Maligne Canyon, where we walked down a really great hiking trail into the gorge and later back along the edge of the forest.

When we were back at the motel around 7:30 p.m., we experienced a complete power outage in the neighborhood, causing all the shops to close because no more payments could be processed. Now we have to replenish our stock of ointment for mosquito bites tomorrow :-).
