First milestone reached - North Cape

Გამოქვეყნდა: 19.07.2017

The North Cape - tourist mecca for all Scandinavia travelers. Whether by caravan, tour bus, motorcycle, bicycle, or on foot, everyone who has taken the long journey north gathers here. Reason enough for the Norwegian tourism office to create an attraction and source of income from it. They wanted to charge us 56€ just to park the car. Their argumentative pressure tactic to convince us was as follows: "Now that you've made it this far, it would be a shame not to take the last step, wouldn't it?" "And if we were to come on foot, without needing a parking spot?" "Then it wouldn't cost you anything, but the next parking spot is 6km away (haha!)..." "Oh, thank you for the information. See you later (HAHA!)." 56€... pfff - are they kidding? We then found a transmission mast on the country road, 2km away from the parking entrance, which was generous enough to park Winnifred under. Et voilà!

The North Cape itself is more of a symbolic place than a scenic one. The main attraction is the famous globe, where everyone tries to take their own unique "victory photo". In addition to a large souvenir shop, there is also an underground museum about the historical development of the North Cape, a short film cinema about the year at the North Cape, an exhibition of numerous celebrities who have visited the North Cape, and plenty of information about the midnight sun. After the hustle and bustle of the afternoon died down, we finally had time to enjoy the place more. It is quite an impressive sight to stand at the (almost!) northernmost point, with isolated headlands to the left and right, and a view of the blue horizon ahead, beyond which lies the eternal ice of the Arctic.
