On Sunday, October 16, 2022, I decided to go on a hike to Cerro de La Bufa.
According to the All Trails app, this trail can be completed in about 3 hours... in my special Andrea-tempo, I estimate at least 5 hours 😁.
I started from my accommodation in Guanajuato towards the east and passed by Plaza Allende and Cervantes Theater.
At some point, the trail goes up what feels like 1000 stairs to a main road. Probably a shortcut, I don't know.
Once I reached the top, the trail runs parallel to the highway and after about 20 minutes, I arrived at the foot of Cerro de la Bufa. First, a break and then continue. The sun is already high in the sky, it's very hot.
The trail is (oh wonder 😉) slightly steep, but nice to walk at my leisurely pace. The views along the way are simply magnificent! Along the way, I also pass by a kind of cave where religious services are held.
I don't make it all the way up to the summit because a type of grasshopper along the way keeps increasing in number and also jumps on me 😲. Eww, it feels gross on my legs! Definitely not my cup of tea. Long pants would have been better, preferably with elastic bands at the ankles. So, I turn back.
On the way back down, I meet Eike. He is from León and regularly goes hiking here. We had already met on the way up, but he is much fitter than me and soon disappears from my sight. We walk together for a while until he takes a specific shortcut and says goodbye.
When I reach the highway again, I take a short break in the shade because the sun up here in the highlands is mercilessly blazing. And who comes around the corner on his enduro bike? Eike! He immediately stops and offers me a ride for a good stretch. Of course, I don't say no and let him take me to the Monumento al Pipila. From there, I just need to take the Funicular train down to Centro and it's not far from there to my accommodation.
All in all, a great (little) hiking day! 🙂
