Tuesday, 04.07.2017 - Independence Day in the US!
As a holiday, we are not allowed to work. Too bad. So we get into the rental car and go.
We should go to University Park. The goal is to have many young people there and our 2 young Moldovans feel comfortable. But: The area is different. We ended up in an upscale neighborhood. Single-family houses that are as large as palaces. Madness. Even Roooooobert Geiss would reach his financial limit here. Anyway; go there, found a parking space, didn't have to search for long
and get into the crowd.
There was also something cute to see. Cute ponies
and the cute Radu; here on the right in the picture.
Always gladly - not only by the Americans - taken, a group selfie.
Even the local fire department naturally had their big day and presented their brand new fire truck. One thing you have to give the Americans credit for: police, ambulance and fire department vehicles look soooo much cooler than ours.
On the way back to the car, we discovered cool US cars on the side of the road. For those of you who know: a Camaro SS Convertible
and an even older Cadillac Convertible. Nice.
Then the consideration, where should we go next. Tour guide Greve then suggested Lewisville Lake. Said and done. Arriving there - at the golf course - we spontaneously decided to hit some golf balls from the driving range. For Marco, Radu, and Vadim, this was a premiere, so we all had a lot of fun. But Radu shot the bird. He pulled out wood 1, maximum backswing possible, downswing, missed the ball, but let go of the club. It then spun like a helicopter propeller across the driving range. It hit the ground at 40 meters. After we had recovered from laughing, Radu went to pick up his club. His luck: we were pretty much alone there. Well, almost alone. I went over to a couple who were also hitting some balls and asked if they could briefly interrupt their game because my friend had to go to the driving range to pick something up. Confused about whether they understood that correctly, they asked what he had to pick up back there. When I giggled and said it was his club, the two of them stood there with their mouths open for a while. Confused because a) how can you lose your club? and b) how do you manage to make it fly 40 meters? I politely thanked them for witnessing something I had never seen before and left giggling.
After the basket was finally empty, we went over to the lake.
This was completely in the hands of Mexicans and Latinos. Madness, what they put up there. Whole kitchens were set up, smokers, grill carts, etc., for sensational smelling BBQs. Cool!
Hungry, we then went back to the car and back to the hotel. Exhausted from the day in the sun - we had a relaxing 35 degrees in the shade - and the lingering effects of the time change, I treated myself to a nap. From 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm, there is a free buffet of snacks and cold drinks in the hotel. We treated ourselves to this and instead of going out for dinner, we ate our fill of it. Tomorrow we will work again, 3 days, then it's already the weekend again. A hot day comes to an end, in the evening we could see and hear some fireworks in the infinite distance. Independence Day in America - check!
