Today is a full program.
The planned activities include Waimea Canyon (a) including the canyon trail (b), then replacing the lost frisbee at Uncle D's (c) and looking for some souvenirs, continuing to the frisbee golf course in Princeville (d), and watching the sunset at Hanalei beach (e). You will see a full program and cover 3/4 of the island.
We will be in the car at 8:45 am. Yes, if we want, we can also wake up early. After an hour's drive through serpentine roads and amazing views around every corner,
we reach the Waimea Canyon Lookout.
After a few steps, we reach the viewing platform.
A dreamlike view awaits us. Today it is a bit cloudy, but that doesn't bother the great panorama.
In the distance, we see rain falling, a great picture with the clouds and the light.
We continue on the Kokee Rd to the Pu'u Hinahina Lookout. The canyon trail also starts from here.
You won't believe how fast clouds can move. At the same time as us, they reach the Pu'u Hinahina Lookout and relieve themselves in the form of heavy rain.
"I'm not going hiking in this rain" and so we pass the time in the car by having breakfast. After 20 minutes, we venture to the Lookout. Here too, a great view.
"Should we take a quick look at the trail?" Sweetheart doesn't give up and starts walking in flip-flops.
The path is actually quite good if you have the right shoes, as well as walking sticks and water, and if it is dry.
After 15 min. downhill, over roots and wet leaves, we turn around.
And that's good, the next shower doesn't take long. We are lucky, we have seen the canyon, now we only see clouds.
We continue on the bumpy Kolee Rd, past the Nasa Geophysical Observatory
to the Kalalau Lookout.
We should see that.
That's what we saw.
That's it here, we can skip the Pu'u O Kila lookout.
Let's go to Uncle D's.
After all the effort, with 3 new discs and a few souvenirs, we deserve a reward.
But now we also have to try out the new discs. Since the clouds don't promise a romantic sunset, we drive again to the nearby Lydgate Beach Park.
This humid heat after the rain is exhausting.
We decide to end the first rainy day with a beer and 2 poke bowls.
