Great departure from LA. We really enjoyed our time in LA, but it's time to continue our journey. A beautiful 2-hour drive north brought us to Santa Barbara. The iPhone doctor was able to help Zoë right away, and with $170 less in our pockets and a happy Zoë, we set off to explore. The Italian restaurant tempted us for lunch, and the lovely downtown area invited us to linger. At the Chinese nail salon, all of our nails were polished :-) After that, we headed to Motel 6, which was right by the beach and beckoned us with a short nap. The travel guide recommended a bar for cocktail hour, so we curiously went there, but unfortunately were turned away. Zoë has to be 21 - even if she doesn't drink alcohol, she's not allowed in... What a shame - but another lesson learned. The next suggestion was Lucky Penny Restaurant, a house covered in pennies for good luck. The food was excellent, and we ended the delicious day with a strawberry cheesecake and affogato ice cream at Rori's Artisanal Creamery... a truly indulgent day!
The day of departure. We loved LA but it was time to leave. A 2-hour drive north took us to Santa Barbara. The iPhone doctor could help Zoë, and with $170 less in my pocket but with a happy Zoë, we started to explore the city. The Italian restaurant tempted us for lunch, and the old town is beautifully groomed. Some friendly Chinese ladies polished all our nails, and thereafter we proceeded to the Motel 6, which was at the Beach - where we couldn't resist a small nap :-)
The travel guide advised us to have cocktails at the 'Pickle Room,' which we gladly followed, only to be thrown out straight away.. Zoë has to be 21, even if she wouldn't drink any alcohol. What a shame, but lesson learned. The next recommendation was the 'Lucky Penny,' a restaurant with pennies all over the walls - a lucky house. The dinner was outstanding, and we rounded up the lovely day with a strawberry cheesecake and affogato at Rori's Artisanal Creamery - what a sumptuous day!
