At 10 o'clock our minivan was exchanged for 2 Jeep Wrangler 4D. From there we went via the Saddle Road to Mauna Kea. After a short acclimatization time at the Visitors Center (2770m) to get used to the altitude, we were allowed to start the summit drive. Before that, the park ranger gave us an introduction to 4WD driving. Then we went up a gravel road to the 13 observatories at the summit at an altitude of 4200m. And then, the unpleasant surprise. The lack of oxygen manifests itself as altitude sickness. Not while driving, but when getting out. All of us suffer from dizziness if we move too quickly. Angela was hit the hardest, she can't even get out. Since the weather at the summit is getting worse, we don't stay there for long. in the early afternoon we drive back down to the sea and relax on the beach. The road there, like a roller coaster, is a lot of fun. The afternoon ends with a postcard sunset. The daily Walmart visit for dinner concludes the day. It was incredibly beautiful again today.
