๐Ÿ‡ฒ๐Ÿ‡พ We fly from Sabah to Sarawak: our last destination in Borneo is Kuching

Diterbitake: 21.08.2023

We leave the state of Sabah and fly to Sarawak, to the capital Kuching, our last destination in Borneo. On April 20, 2023, our plane takes off and brings us from Kota Kinabalu to Kuching in 2.5 hours. As always, we order a Grab taxi at the airport, which takes us to our accommodation in no time. We stay at the Kuching Waterfront Lodge, as the name suggests, right by the water or the bustling promenade. For tourists, there are plenty of small souvenir shops, as well as supermarkets, food stalls, and spice stalls, as well as restaurants and cafes nearby. The location was really unique: sightseeing spots, Chinatown, "litte India," and a large shopping mall were just around the corner. Kuching welcomed us with sunshine and hot temperatures of over 30 degrees Celsius. Accordingly, there was not much going on during the day. It wasn't until the evening that the waterfront filled up with tourists and families. We were also there during the "Sugar Festival" in Malaysia, a multi-day holiday, when the promenade filled up in the evenings and many shops remained closed. There was also a fireworks display here and there ๐ŸŽ†

We often strolled leisurely across the Darul-Hana Bridge, the city's landmark and a cool photo motif. The Sarawak State Assembly building (government building of the city) is also illuminated in changing colors in the evening, very worth seeing. At the waterfront, you can also admire the Masjid India Mosque (a mosque built on stilts in the water) and buildings from the 19th century: the Astana, a former palace, and Fort Margherita, which once served as protection against pirates. We also visited the orchid park and took a day to explore the Bako National Park and the Semenggoh Wildlife Centre.๐Ÿฆง๐Ÿฅฌ๐Ÿฅฅ๐Ÿ”†(both will have a separate post).

We felt incredibly comfortable in Kuching, also known as the city of cats. Everything was different again from Sabah. Somehow more organized, cleaner and more modern, with a lot of charm. We found a delicious Indian restaurant in China Town, where we ate a lot of Masala Tosai and the owners were incredibly friendly to us. We extended our stay at the Waterfront Lodge. In this accommodation, we had to change rooms again at the beginning..๐Ÿ˜…because we initially got a room on the 2nd floor where the air conditioning unfortunately did not work. It was unbearably hot, and we contacted the reception staff. Since this problem was known, we were able to move to the 1st floor without any problems and got a room with a functioning aircon. ๐ŸŒฌ๏ธ We flew to Kuala Lumpur on April 26 โœˆ๏ธ
