From Nelson, we continued along the West Coast to Hokitika by bus.
The highlight of this journey was the lunch break. The bus stops at the Pancake Rocks and you have 45 minutes to explore them.
The Pancake Rocks are rock formations that have been hollowed out by the strong surf and now resemble stacked pancakes.
Fortunately, the weather was favorable here - it didn't rain and the sun even briefly appeared. The West Coast is known for being quite rough and receiving a lot of rainfall.
I made a stop with an overnight stay in the small town of Hokitika on the West Coast.
Originally, I wanted to visit the Hokitika Gorge (a gorge where the water appears blue like Wick) - unfortunately, it rained there all day and I therefore decided not to take a trip there.
Hokitika itself is located by the sea and has a black beach where a lot of driftwood is washed up. From this, a Hokitika Sign was built.
My next stop on the West Coast is in Franz Josef Glacier Village - more about that in the next blog.
