Rund um Taichung

Diterbitake: 12.12.2017

Here are some worthwhile destinations around Taichung:

1. Glass Museum and Glass Temple in Lukang: The museum displays impressive glass sculptures in various variations. In numerous shops you can buy sculptures and other glass products at affordable prices. Additionally, there is a glass temple next door with beautiful wall paintings.

2. Lukang Old Street: Just a few minutes drive from the Glass Museum is the center of Lukang. An old street with charming small shops winds through the city to the Mazu Temple. Around the temple there are different food stalls offering exclusive delicacies from the region. Here and there you can also discover some curious dishes;)
I visited Lukang twice. The first time I witnessed a colorful parade in front of the Mazu Temple. The impressive costumes (see first picture) represent temple guardians to my knowledge. Together with some music and dance, the atmosphere was perfect.

3. Puli: The region convinces with a beautiful backdrop. We visited an electronic festival in Puli, which took place on the lake. In addition, we had free admission to the nearby thermal bath after 6 p.m., where electronic music was also played. A unique experience. But the region is also worth a regular visit.

4. Eight Trigram Mountains Buddha: A big Buddha statue with a beautiful view of Changhua. In addition, delicacies and souvenirs can be bought at various stands.

5. Houtanjing Sky Bridge: The bridge is located a bit further north in the Nantou region. It leads over a dense forest that is said to house many monkeys. A very nice place to relax.

6. Sunny Hills: Here you can visit pineapple plantations. In addition, the famous pineapple cake and other delicacies are offered everywhere.
