Sydney Stadt

Diterbitake: 21.12.2017

Sydney was our final stop in Australia. We were really looking forward to meeting up with Louis and Celine, whom we had met in Hervey Bay. They live or lived in Sydney and will be moving to Amsterdam in the new year. Maybe we will have the opportunity to visit them. :)

On the first evening when we arrived, we made the obligatory visit to the Sydney Opera House. It is very impressive when you have already seen the building in hundreds of photos and then suddenly you are standing in front of it.

The next day, we felt like doing some sports. So in the morning, we exchanged our sandals/flip flops for our running/sports/everyday shoes, so that they would also have a reason to be in our overpacked backpacks.

As if that wasn't enough, we then decided to escape the city and do the 4-hour walk from Manly to Spit Bridge. For this, we could once again take out our hiking shoes. Unfortunately, not much happened. Australia is somehow more of a sandals/flip flop country. :) The walk first leads through the bays of Manly and their beautiful houses with a fantastic sea view, before entering a national park. Along the way, there were always beautiful viewpoints or small beaches where we were mostly alone. Exhausted but happy, we took the bus back to the city.

On Saturday, we met Louis and Celine at the market in Bondi Beach. Together with some other friends, we spent the afternoon by the sea. Since it was Saturday, the beach was crowded with toned and sun-tanned bodies. Unfortunately, the results of our previous day's sports activities were not yet apparent. ;-) Luckily, next to the beach is 'the Rocks'. There may not be any sand there, but you can jump from the rocks into the water and splash around in the natural rock pools. In the evening, we went out for food and drinks. Rahel and I got to listen to the real Aussie slang all day 'Cunt hay! :) Definitely a fun and entertaining day. We ended our Sydney trip with some obligatory sightseeing before taking the plane to the second country of our trip...New Zealand. There we will meet Bea, Rahel's mom, in Christchurch so that we can explore the South Island with her in a campervan for 10 days.
