At 8 o'clock we set off to drive all the way to the north, to Cape Reinga (northernmost point of New Zealand).
Here two oceans meet.
Up there we also met the two from the campsite again.
On the way back we went to the sand dunes to try sandboarding. It's fun but it's very tiring to walk up the hill.
Three steps forward and two steps back. After an hour we gave up and went back to the car. It was a nice experience but I don't need to do it again.
At the car we met two girls from Belgium.
It's always nice to exchange ideas with other travelers and get some tips, but sometimes it's annoying because you have to tell your story over and over again.
On the way back south, we spontaneously took an exit and went to a really beautiful beach. Crystal clear water, white sand, and no people in sight.
There we made scrambled eggs, we bought the eggs from a farmer with chickens, where we stayed overnight.
Then we went on to 90 Mile Beach, which wasn't so nice though. We left after 5 minutes. It was very dirty from all the tourists.
Fun fact:
90 Mile Beach is only 55 miles long.
Then we continued south to the campsite where we already were 2 days ago, because we liked it here very much.
Since people are often surprised that Lea and I only met in Auckland and already go on a road trip together, a short comment on that.
We compliment each other really well on the trip, both sometimes totally clueless, laughing a lot, and very chaotic.
I hear the phrase 'Do you see the road there? We should have turned there!' more often than you can imagine.
But we both take it with humor. And I love this kind of chaos.
By the way, the van is really more comfortable than you think. Sometimes a bit creepy though. Yesterday we almost freaked out when we heard noises (sounded like drums), in the end it was just our faucet.
Fortunately, we have curtains here.
Good night, my dears 🤗
