Our unfortunately last stop in Australia is Melbourne. It is the capital of the state of Victoria and is the second largest city in the Australian continent with nearly 5 million inhabitants after Sydney.
Once we arrived, we checked in at the centrally located Best Western Hotel - right on the Yarra River - after returning the rental car, and then explored the city center on foot.
Melbourne is pure culture. There are no other Australian metropolis with so many small live music clubs, but also theaters and art have their home here. The city exudes a European flair, is located on the beautiful Yarra River, and feels a bit more casual than its big sister Sydney. There are a variety of attractions, Flinders Station, Melbourne Town Hall, Chinatown, Block and Royal Arcades, St. Paul's Cathedral, AC/DC Lane to name just a few - and also many bars, pubs, restaurants and shopping centers.
We could have easily stayed one more day here.
