The day's tour takes us to Otterndorf with a view of Schlick and the beginning of the North Sea. The wind is blowing briskly from the east (tailwind up to here) with gusts of around 55 km/h. From there the route leads back to Hamburg, from now on there is a headwind...
At 1 p.m., the energy reserves come into play because all the shops in Neuhaus an der Oste are closed. The home-made energy bars taste great; if Don Quixote had had them, he would have won against the windmills.
Then we stop overnight at the Krautsand campsite. Dinner is delicious: fresh potato and onion bread, cheese, Italian salami, tomatoes, the bench becomes a table. A cold beer, the view of the lake, lighthouse and sunset make up for the tough journey against the wind.
Two cyclists are camping next to our tent. They are on multi-week tours through and around Germany. One has already done 3,000 km (on an R+M e-bike with a tent trailer from B Turtle, weighing more than 80 kg with luggage), the other is on a recumbent bike and has almost the same distance ahead of him in the other direction.
At night, the frogs croak loudly and on the nearby Elbe you can hear the engines of the large ships as they pass behind the dike.
