Tour de Suisse 2020

Diterbitake: 24.07.2020

In times of Corona, everything is different and even the summer holidays have undergone a significant program change. The originally planned 'Alpe-Adria' bike tour from Salzburg to Grado would currently be possible, but there are so many uncertainties and restrictions that it simply makes sense to stay nearby. And besides, this also offers the chance to discover beautiful things in your own country.

So we simply defined the goal of circling Lake Geneva and planned everything else spontaneously and depending on the weather.

Stage 1: Brugg - Aarau

After working in the morning, a short introductory route of about 20km was perfect. We didn't want to start in Zurich itself, as we already know the surroundings well enough. The bike path of Route 5 (Aare route) pleasantly follows the river on gravel paths and you make good progress. One advantage of cycling holidays in Switzerland is the SchweizMobil app, which shows all cycle routes (by the way, also the canoe routes, but they are not very helpful with a bicycle) and provides excellent map material. You can also use the MeteoSwiss app to be prepared for any surprises. It worked perfectly when we got caught in a downpour just before Aarau, which didn't show up on the radar. We arrived a bit wet as victims of this illegal precipitation in Aarau, where we met up with the Gasthof Schützen, a very comfortable accommodation, and a few of my colleagues for a beer (another benefit of being nearby). It's just a pity that it was unfriendly wet and cool that evening, because Aarau's old town with its many garden restaurants would have been a nice start to the summer holidays on a warm summer evening.
