Hong Kong: Tian Tan Buddha

Diterbitake: 05.11.2018

Holaaaa bitchachos,

So we went out for the first time today in shorts and a t-shirt (just some weather information ๐Ÿ˜›๐ŸŒž).

We left around 10 and headed towards Lantau Island. The island used to be much smaller a few years ago but it has been expanded through land reclamation. Today, there is a mini airport at the same location. (Nooo๐Ÿ˜‚- it's actually big๐Ÿ™ˆ).

It's about 28 km away from where we were. First, we took the metro and then there are multiple options to get to the Big Buddha at the top of the mountain. We went up using a cable car and down by bus.

We actually thought we would be back at the hotel by 4 pm but noooo.

We waited in line for literally 3.5 hours just to get on a cable car ๐Ÿ™„๐Ÿ™„๐Ÿคฆ๐Ÿฝโ€โ™€๏ธ

Fortunately, we had a very nice couple from Northern Germany behind us, (Greetings to you if you're reading this ๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธ) and we passed the time by talking to them.

But the wait was definitely worth it. The cable car ride takes 25 minutes, you travel or fly ๐Ÿค” over the ocean, two mountains, and untouched landscapes. Really worth seeing ๐Ÿค™๐Ÿฝ๐Ÿ˜Š

Once we reached the top, we had to fill our stomachs because we didn't consider the long waiting time when planning our meals.

Of course, we then ran into two Vรถhringers in the middle of Hong Kong on a mountain๐Ÿคฆ๐Ÿฝโ€โ™€๏ธ

Afterwards, everyone warned us, be careful, there are sooo many stairs to the Buddha.

We didn't even laugh....... we are experienced stair climbers now ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‰

We reached the top in about 2 minutes ๐Ÿ˜‚

The Tian Tan Buddha (here it is called Big Buddha) is the second largest free-standing Buddha in the world.

Quite impressive when you stand in front of this huge statue as a small dwarf (yes, Jasna is also included here ๐Ÿ˜‚).

Afterwards, we briefly visited the monastery there, and then the fun began.

Since we didn't want to wait in line for another 3 hours (and the cable car doesn't run for very long anyway), and we didn't want to spend another 15โ‚ฌ, we chose to come down by public bus.

Uh-oh.

Thankfully, we're still alive. There were obviously no seats left on the bus, and the bus driver raced down the mountain at 80 km/h without any guilt. I should mention that it was a serpentine road and the road was far from flat.

Even the people sitting down had to hold on tightly to their seats to avoid being thrown out of them. I don't think we need to mention our standing situation any further. ๐Ÿ™„

Then we took the metro all the way back, bought some supplies for tomorrow, had dinner, and now we're packing our trash bags.

Tomorrow we're flying to Vietnam โœˆ๏ธโœˆ๏ธ๐Ÿš€๐Ÿ›ซ.

So party people,

We'll soon be saying goodnight while you still have a nice day ahead. ๐Ÿ˜ด๐Ÿ’ค
