This week has gone by so fast again and now I'm already two months here in America. I can't believe it yet.
If one of the former au pairs wanted to tell me that time flies by here, I always just smiled and thought it wasn't true. But now that I'm here, I believe every single word.
Actually, I have pretty much the same routine every day. Start at 7:00 a.m. and take the oldest child to school. Then I either have free time until I have to leave again at 2:30 p.m. to pick him up. Or I take the youngest to kindergarten, pick him up again, make him lunch, put him to bed, and then have free time.
When I pick up the oldest, either I stay at home and take care of some of the children so the mother can drive the rest to their afternoon activities, like sports, etc. Or she stays at home and I drive the children.
On Friday afternoon, I went shopping at Aldi :D that was really an experience in itself :D In general, it's typically American, with American groceries, but I also discovered a few "German" things that I didn't even know we have in Germany :D In the evening, I made myself comfortable in my room and watched DVDs. I still have to watch the movies with English subtitles to understand everything. But I feel like I can leave them off soon :)
On Saturday, I slept in and then went into town. There are some really nice stores here and because of the appearance of the houses and stores, I had a bit of a feeling like I was in an old town. Then I went back to the house and took care of all my appointments there and read outside :D
On Sunday, my contact person organized a meeting. We went kayaking at Montrose Beach. The beach, with the Chicago skyline, was really beautiful. Kayaking was also nice, but not at all comparable to what I always did at home with my family. Here we just paddled back and forth next to the beach. The tours we did in Plön are a thousand times better. But what was really nice was talking to the other au pairs and exchanging some experiences :)
I'm sorry this entry is coming so late, but it won't be the first and won't be the last time :D
