We decide to stay another day in Golega. Golega is the home of the Portuguese horse breed Lusitanos, which are spirited and docile horses of medium size.
Horses are omnipresent here, horse markets are held here, as are dressage and show jumping tournaments. We take a short tour through the truly idyllic village, visit the 14th century church with the ajulejoz-decorated altar area and take a look outside the Casa Estudio Carlos Relvas. He discovered his passion for photography and built the chalet between 1871 and 1875 as a photo studio and space for experiments.
The lady at the reception told us about an event in the neighboring town of Azinhaga. The Festival do Campino is taking place there this weekend. So we cycled about 10 km there.
The main street has been closed off to spectators with fences, sand has been piled up and is being moistened. At 3:30 p.m. the first riders come by and then there is a back and forth with a few bulls. We don't really understand what is happening, but lots of people are watching. Afterwards we listen to a band playing Pasodoble and then we cycle back home. Dinner is delicious in the Café Central.
