I take the ferry from Devonport to Waiheke Island, which is about 40 minutes away by ferry.
The island is known for its climate conditions, which are ideal for wine growing, as well as for beach tourism.
Once on the island, I take a "Hop-On Hop-Off Bus" that regularly stops at various locations on the island. I start in Onetangi and then head to Ostend via the Batch Winery.
From there, I travel to Oneroa, the main town on the island, which is famous for its beautiful beach.
I treat myself to an ice cream and then head to Mudbrick Vineyard, a well-known winery with excellent wines.
It offers a great view of the Auckland skyline, which is about 20km away.
By the way, the waiting time for booking a wedding reception here is about two and a half years, and it has its own helicopter landing pad.
At 4pm, I take the ferry back to Devonport.
On my last evening, I meet up with Sibylle and Burkhard, whom I had met before the flight in Frankfurt.
