Tag 1 - Arrival in Hong Kong

Diterbitake: 26.01.2017

The farewell from Vienna was at least easy due to the weather. Foggy and cold. The captain's announcement before landing in Hong Kong was all the more pleasing: 16 degrees and almost cloudless. And that at 7 o'clock in the morning.

Hong Kong is a vertical city. Over 7 million people live here on an area of 1,108 km2, with 40% of the area uninhabitable. This means a population density of 6,600 inhabitants/km2, in three districts even over 40,000. For comparison: In New York, 10,350 people live per km2, in Berlin about 3,900.

Nevertheless, the people of Hong Kong have the second highest life expectancy after the Japanese. Medical care based on the British model and a healthy diet (a lot of fish) are an explanation for this.

Here, materialism and prosperity reign. Once a place for refugees, Hong Kong has become one of the most important financial and trading centers worldwide.

These days, Chinese New Year is celebrated here. An impressive fireworks display in Victoria Harbor and colorful parades can be admired.
