We were awakened today Sunday at 6am by Miyuki with the good news that the train to Tokyo is running again and our flight was not completely cancelled but only delayed by 15 hours.
We quickly got a taxi and took a 3-hour train ride to Tokyo.
Today's weather was completely different from yesterday: blue sky and warm. We even had the luck to see Japan's highest mountain and volcano, Mount Fuji, from the train.
When we arrived in Tokyo, we couldn't see much of the typhoon at first glance, but we had been following its impact online the day before and we were deeply moved by the fate of the people here.
Since not all public transportation was in operation yet, we took a taxi to the airport because we wanted to make sure to catch our flight. We still had enough time to spend our last yen at the duty-free shop.
During the flight, we celebrated Karin's 18th birthday - even the airline surprised her with a special dessert.
When we arrived in Munich, we had a connecting flight to Basel and were warmly welcomed by our loved ones.
So the journey unfortunately came to an end.
It is almost impossible to put into words how grateful we are to Miyuki. What she has organized and how she has guided us through her homeland is simply incredible, and we were extremely privileged to experience it!
The country and the culture have fascinated us, and many of us will surely come back.
THANK YOU, MIYUKI!
