One thing you have to say, the Americans have good beds, at least I think so. The disappointment from the apartment yesterday has subsided a bit after the first night. It's plain, but it actually has everything you need. And it's only 2 nights - warm nights despite air conditioning. The apartment was built under the raised terrace of the house and is a wooden structure without much insulation. And when the sun beats down on it all day and the temperature only drops to 25 degrees at night, then it's warm. This morning the message of doom that Maui (the 3rd island of our trip, where we will be from the 15th) is on fire.
A state of emergency has been declared, evacuations have begun, and non-essential travel is prohibited. Visitors to West Maui are asked to leave the island, so where we want to go😐And now??
You will now say "it's still a week away" and you're right, but a source of fire is near our booked hotel and we don't want to see a burned island either.
And because of the 12-hour time difference, we can't immediately clarify anything with the travel agency in Germany. That's a bit annoying.
But we have to look ahead and visit some corners here on Oahu in the north. After all, this is the mecca of surfers, here there are turtle beaches, sunset beaches, and shrimp food trucks. Here the world is still in order.
Dora has stirred up the sea quite a bit, but unfortunately the waves are not suitable for surfing. Now we're already driving to THE surf hotspot (North Shore) of Hawaii and not seeing a single surfer. It's frustrating.
A brief stop at Haleiwa Beach
and on to
Mokulēʻia Rock Beach (at the westernmost point of Oahu).
And then our challenge: you decide who looks better?
Now back the whole 35 km to Turtle Bay.
Interrupted by a short detour to the Beverly Hills of Oahu to find Konny and Manu Reimann's house, Konny Island III, for a wefie.
But we search in vain, maybe it's better that way…🤔
Turtle Bay says it all. A bay where turtles are.
Here at the North Shore is not only the mecca of surfers, but also the shrimp trucks and
is supposed to be one of the best.
Was quite delicious.
On TripAdvisor, the truck was described with a $ (cheap), but I found 16 US$ (14.50€) for 6 shrimp and 2 balls of sticky rice expensive. However, by local standards, it's a bargain.
Now all that's missing is the sunset at Sunset Beach.
That's it with Oahu, a week is over. Tomorrow it's time to pack our bags and move on to Kauai.
