Yesterday we got up unreasonably early and took a taxi to the airport. In Sydney, our arrival gate was right next to the one for the onward flight to Ayers Rock, so no searching and running around, perfect! Once we arrived there, we were picked up by an off-road bus and started with lots of nice people - to Uluru! It was exciting until the end with the weather - there had been no rain for 7 months, we needed our rain gear! After Valery from the Aborigines gave us an introduction to the tools, rock art, and culture of their people, we enjoyed the sunset with hundreds of other tourists. And it was wonderful!
This morning we could sleep 45 minutes longer. The day started at 4:45 am😩 after a quick breakfast with a not so exciting sunrise. Then we hiked through the Kata Tjutas, which are 200m higher than Uluru at 548m, and let this spectacular landscape impress us.
And now we're already back on the plane - we're headed to Cairns, where tomorrow we'll take a ship for 2 nights to go snorkeling and stargazing at the Great Barrier Reef.
