Today I'm combining two stages of our tour, even though there were actually several days in between, but it fits so well. Canada is a country of lakes, rivers, and also waterfalls. We saw four waterfalls on our tour, two on the Icefield Parkway and two a few days later in Clearwater.
The Sunwapta Falls and the Athabasca Falls are located between Lake Louise and Jasper, both still quite snowy in April, but the roads there were somewhat passable with the motorhome. We were almost alone at Sunwapta Falls, but there was a lot more going on at Athabasca Falls. Among other things, there were two slackliners climbing on a rope above the waterfall. One of them seemed to be doing it for the first time, as she was very nervous and failed miserably. Her colleague, on the other hand, seemed to have done it several times before. It's still crazy though, the trees on which the rope was hanging didn't seem very stable and reliable to me, as they were very close to the edge.
In Clearwater, there are several waterfalls, all located on the same river. We visited the Helmcken Falls and the Dawson Falls. The first waterfall is tall, the second one is wide. Although there was still snow in the forest, it was so warm during our visit that we could walk around in t-shirts. I've never experienced that before :)
All four waterfalls were not completely frozen anymore, but partially still icy and especially filled with a lot of snow in the runoff. It looked awesome :)
