We arrive at the next campsite a little later than originally planned. On the way here, we were able to see the Fox Glacier very briefly. Otherwise everything was hidden in the clouds. Unfortunately we're too late for the free whirlpool, it closes at 8 p.m., but luckily we got something to eat in the restaurant. A flyer catches my eye at reception. Quad tour. We'll take him with us. While waiting for food, we check the weather again and weigh up our motivation to go hiking. Since things are looking pretty bad to super bad with both, we're booking a quad tour for tomorrow morning. Because they say, the wetter the better. We get a call in the morning and we change our tour time from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Well, luckily, we can even secretly stay at the campsite longer and go into the whirlpool at 11. We stay there for a very long time and it even starts to rain during that time. Rested and excited, we go to the office. From there we walk a short distance to a large parking lot and warehouse. We will be equipped with rubber boots, rain pants and a jacket. After 3 practice rounds on a small course, we all passed, we are divided into 2 groups. Another short briefing and we're ready to go. My heart is still racing from the "driving test", where there were steep curves, through really deep puddles and I felt like I was pretty slow. But with every minute it gets more fun and it can't be wild enough. We drive over stones, mud, small rivers and so on. All of this in the rain, in the rainforest and without a view of the mountains and glaciers, because they are all hanging in the clouds. Whenever we stop, we all grin from ear to ear and I shout to Maren how much fun I'm having. Even while driving, you can't stop grinning! Our guide decides to drive with us through the mud a bit, but everyone gets stuck except for Maren and one other member of the group. At one point he even has to help out with the tow rope and his quad. In the end we all drive through a huge puddle at full speed and the guide takes photos. We had so much fun on the whole tour and we're no longer so sad that we were so unlucky with the weather here. Because it couldn't have been better for the quad tour. Some of the water was already much too high for the quads, which more or less struggled through it, and the guide said with a grin: "Well, we'll see what happens." The adventure went by far too quickly and I would have liked to set off again straight away. Maren empties her rubber boots in the middle of the warehouse. Despite her clothes, she got really wet and is very happy when she finally has something dry to wear again. Afterwards we continue straight away; after all, we have a tight schedule to keep to.
