On the move in World War II

The alarm clock rang at the same time as yesterday, so that today we could really go to Pearl Harbor.

So we had breakfast with the two boys, and two more Germans joined us spontaneously, who also kept us company all day.

So the six Germans set off for the bus at half past eight and drove 1 1/2 hours to Pearl Harbor.

Arriving there, we immediately got a ticket for the crossing to the USS Arizona Memorial. However, we still had to wait for an hour, which we spent looking at Pearl Harbor and reading the history of the USS Arizona.

At 11:15 am, it was finally our turn. However, we were first shown a film about the ship before we went to the memorial. In this, it was described and shown to us how and why the ship was attacked by a Japanese torpedo in Pearl Habor. After the film, we took a ferry to the memorial, which is built on the sunken USS Arizona in Peal Harbor. 😳 So we were standing on the ship that sank on December 7, 1941, where 1,177 men lost their lives.

After the trip to Pearl Harbor and the memorial, we went to Chinatown for lunch. However, we split up; the boys wanted street food and Mareike, Lucy, and I preferred to eat pizza. 😅

Afterwards, we met again and went to the 'National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific,' or rather, we took the bus in that direction. Of course, we had to walk up the hill. 😅 When we reached the top, we were greeted with a beautiful view over Oahu and a really well-maintained cemetery. (The reason why we chose this cemetery is quite simple. Many scenes of Hawaii Five-0 were filmed in this cemetery, and not only Mareike and I, but also Lucy, Manu, and Phillip are big fans of the series 😇)

Afterwards, we went to a supermarket to buy things cheaper than in the convenience store.

Back at the hostel, Mareike went back to sleep because she is still not feeling well, and I went back to the hammock and reviewed the experiences of the day in my mind.

In the evening, we cooked ourselves dinner again and ended it with the others playing UNO. ☺
