Today we take it easy and don't get up until 08:00. After a good breakfast, we inquire about public transportation connections to North Shore, which is not easy. There, we want to attend a surfing competition. First, we take the bus to Ala Moana Shopping Center, because that's where the intercity buses depart. However, finding the bus stop for the desired bus turns out to be extremely difficult. But after some searching, we find everything. The trip to Haleiwa, where we have to transfer, takes about 1.5 hours. And it's cold on the bus because it keeps cooling and we only have a t-shirt and shorts on. When we transfer, we can warm up briefly in the sun and immediately start looking for the next bus...
When we arrive at Banzai Pipeline Beach, we are slowly getting too cold and are glad that we can warm up in the sun at the beach. The Billabong Pipe Masters, one of the biggest and most important surfing competitions in the world, is currently taking place. But today, the big stars are not yet on the water, as there is a qualifying tournament for the main competition.
We still see some cool action on the water. We also take a quick bath in the waves, which is not easy with these masses of water. The competition ends at 4:00 PM and we start looking for a bus for the return trip to Waikiki (knowing what awaits us). This time, we return along the east coast, almost circling the island of Oahu. Unfortunately, the bus is heavily air-conditioned again, but fortunately there are some seats next to the engine where it's a little warmer. The extremely positive thing about taking the bus on Oahu: Whether you travel one station or like us, about 100 stops, it costs only $2.50 per person. So, we went on a 5-hour bus ride for $5.
Back in Waikiki, we look for a restaurant for dinner because we haven't eaten much since breakfast. At 'Cheeseburger Waikiki' we find a great restaurant with very delicious and special burgers. Then it's time to go home because tomorrow we want to get up early again. We won't reveal where yet :-)
Photo of the day: Dessert at the Cheesburger, it was enough for both of us...
