After a peaceful night, we had a hearty breakfast and then set off towards Mane. Our first destination there was the Chateau de Sauvan. However, it is currently privately owned and not open. What a shame.
But just under 1km away was the Pont roman de Mane. An ancient and very beautiful bridge. Probably the access to the city in the past. Today you can sit by the river and have a nice day. Right next to it is a small hotel.
Just one kilometer further is the Salagon Monastery. There is also a pitch on a beautiful meadow right next to it. So we parked our camper and made ourselves comfortable. Since the monastery is directly attached to the village of Mane, we put on our shoes and strolled into the village. And through the village and out of the village at the other end. It was a steep ascent. At the very end, a bakery was waiting for us. So we had a cappuccino and something to eat there.
And we continued uphill towards Forcalquier. But since the road was winding endlessly uphill, we turned around after a few kilometers and walked the entire way back.
Arriving at the camper, we took a moment to catch our breath and then walked to the monastery. After all, it was right in front of us. This was somehow strange. There were several smaller gardens organized by latitude. Northern Europe, Southern Europe, North America, South America, etc.
In the monastery itself, you could only enter the chapel. It was, at least for us, quite unspectacular.
As a conclusion, I bought a small plant and we prepared for a cozy evening at the camper. Unfortunately, we had to change our spot because suddenly several campers with young people arrived and they made a lot of noise. So we spontaneously decided to drive on to Forcalquier.
