I used the second and last day in Ireland for a day trip to Kilkenny and the Wicklow Mountains. Learned the following:
- Kilkenny is not particularly famous in Ireland for its beer, but for the best team in the national sport of hurling (the fastest ball sport in the world, played in Ireland since the Middle Ages, looks like a mix of rugby, egg race, and hockey). I just had it explained to me and then watched it on YouTube.
- The Wicklow Mountains are not as impressive as they are in Austria, but they're green. No wonder, it drizzled a bit on that day.
- Tours are pretty much the only cheap thing in Ireland. The day tour only cost 18 euros, and it provided fascinating, entertaining, and educational information about Ireland's history, life in Dublin including insider tips, live performances of Irish songs on a mini guitar (definitely NOT a ukulele), and an amazing demonstration by a shepherd.
The next day I went to Montreal - surprisingly uncomplicated. For now, here are just a few pictures.
