Ubud is almost exactly as you would imagine. Totally green and surrounded by jungle and rice fields. Hip and of course vegan and relaxed… but from the beginning:
From Canggu we first drive to the Tanah Lot Temple, a very old Hindu temple right by the sea. Then we go to Swing Heaven, I thought there was a big swing out onto the rice field. But far from it, there were at least 10 swings and you could rent a dress and really cool professional photos were taken at each swing. It was really worth it and a lot of fun. Then we drove on to our first waterfall. We were a bit shocked... this was a spiritual facility with ablutions, cleansing and screaming 😱 so that you can let go of everything negative. That's exactly our thing 🤦♀️ The tourists are really being ripped off. Entrance fee 12 euros without everything, then it continued with 18 euros and you could also spend 60 euros with everything. Then I was asked if I had my period??? Are you crazy??? Frank wasn't allowed to take off his jeans under the sarong and we were really close to leaving. Of course you can understand that if it's a holy place, but then you shouldn't allow tourists access at all. Or? The waterfall itself was beautiful and hidden behind rocks.
Our hotel is incredibly beautiful, somewhat remote in a small adjacent village with really local products (for example, the doors for the temples are made here and every house has at least one dog). It has huge rooms, a terrace and a magnificent view, we can really do that recommend. Ubud Dedari Villas with infinity pool
Then it's Frank's birthday and we go on a waterfall tour. We pay attention to the entrance fees and look for lesser-known places. Normal entry 1 euro to 1.50 euros. The nature here is truly breathtaking and it will certainly be an unforgettable birthday.
Ubud and the surrounding area is really exactly how you imagine Bali, temples everywhere, it's relaxed, little cafes on every corner, there are healthy smoothies and bowls with superfood everywhere and you really slow down.
