After a hearty breakfast on the boat, we set off shortly after 8 a.m. The destination of today's stage was Tulcea.
It was a bit rainy in the morning and I stopped at a bus stop for a shower. After that, the ride continued almost dry. I cycled through a few small towns. Today, too, it was up and downhill and for a long time I didn't see the Danube at all.
After a stop 35 km before Tulcea with Fanta, cereal bars, banana, apricot and Milka, I continued on with renewed strength. I arrived in Tulcea as the rain began to set in. Tulcea is the last city on the Danube that can still be reached by bike (or car). From now on, the only way to get to the Black Sea would be by boat. I will therefore say goodbye to the Danube tomorrow morning and head towards Constanza (a large city on the Black Sea). The EuroVelo 6 (Atlantic to the Black Sea), which I have been following since Tuttlingen, also ends in Constanza.
After the obligatory "arrival photo" at the port, I checked into my guesthouse. Then I quickly showered and packed up all my dirty clothes (that was almost all of them) and went to the nearest laundry with the last of my clean clothes on my body. On the way there, a loose manhole cover almost broke my left leg when it simply slipped to the side when I stepped on it. Luckily, I only got a few scratches...
After dinner, the laundry was already washed and dried (many thanks to Stefana!). Since it started to rain during dinner, I'm now in my room and relaxing a bit. The last few days have been very exhausting with all the altitude.
I am super happy and proud that I can now say that I have cycled from the source to the furthest point on the Danube! Today I also passed the 3,000 km mark. Now I am looking forward to arriving in Constanza and swimming in the Black Sea. It's not long until then!
