After crossing the Strait of Magellan and several hours of bus travel through flat areas, we arrived in mountainous terrain and soon reached Ushuaia, the southernmost city in the world. To our surprise, it was not a small village but a proper city.
The surroundings are perfect for hiking, so the next day we set off to a glacier above the city to enjoy the views of the end of the world. The weather was once again kind to us and we had splendid, even warm autumn weather. The following day was dedicated to history, as we spent almost the entire day in the museum. It was very interesting, as the museum is housed in the former prison and one wing can be visited in its original state. We were glad to return to our warm and cozy hostel.
Actually, we thought that nothing could surprise us anymore after such a long journey. However, we were mistaken. A gas pipeline somewhere on the way to Tierra del Fuego had a leak, causing the entire island to be without electricity. That means no light, hot water, no cooking, and no coffee for Carole. Fortunately, everything could be fixed somehow and late in the evening we had electricity again and could treat ourselves to a warm burger.
