It all started when our favorite restaurant in Garmisch-Partenkirchen was closed. 'La Spelonca' is a spaghetti bistro where you can watch the chef cook. All the dishes are fresh and delicious and the prices are reasonable. But of course, everyone needs a day off and today was the day.
So we were looking for dinner and found... nothing. Despite many restaurants, we couldn't get a table. Everything was already reserved, sorry. Then, a stroke of luck, there was one last table available in the 4Eck and we were kindly shown to our seats. It was just before 6 pm and we were the first guests. Shouldn't the linen napkins and the cutlery for multiple courses have made us suspicious?
We sat happily at the table as the menus were handed to us. On the first page, oysters or a 400g steak for 44 euros. On the second page, a three-course menu of your choice for 55 euros or a four-course menu for 69 euros. Suddenly, we felt out of place.
It's not that we can't eat with a knife and fork, but I wouldn't call us experts in fine dining.
In this case, the only option was to take the plunge. While expensive bottles were being opened and oysters were being slurped on our left and right, our beautifully presented dishes arrived. And they were not only a feast for the eyes. Everything tasted excellent and, of course, we finished our plates. It wasn't much anyway. However, a guest next to us returned their food, saying it tasted interesting. A death sentence.
To celebrate the day (why?), we treated ourselves to a small dessert: a flowerpot! A really great idea - a mascarpone cream at the bottom and chocolate crumble on top. The latter really looked like soil in the small clay flowerpot. And there was even a little sprout planted in it. Amazing!
So, was it an experience? Definitely! Will we do it again tomorrow? Probably not...
