Today it finally started after my flight got canceled yesterday and I spent a night in the hotel.. I thought it would be smart to use the hotel offered by the airline.. I couldn't know that I would end up in a hotel 10 minutes away from my home. But I still had a great time, I was accompanied by two girls who booked the same flight as me. We spent the afternoon in the city, and thanks to the two girls, I felt like a tourist myself. I saw things that I have never noticed before. I mean, I've known the city since I was little, but it's a whole new experience with people from further away. In the evening, we went to the spa, which surprised us positively because the airline booked it for us.
At 4 am, we were picked up and headed to the airport.
Short stopover in Paris, and then I was on the plane to St. Maarten in the Caribbean.
I had a window seat and a free seat next to me. Pure luxury!
When we were finally ready to go, a gentleman realized that his screen was not working. Without further ado, he was seated next to me by the flight attendant.. that was the end of my luxury.
Desperate, I unpacked my lunch packet that I got at the hotel. I started eating my bread, which was topped with sausage and cheese. My neighbor gave me an annoyed look, the smell was phenomenal. Seizing my opportunity, I started peeling my orange. This was too much for the man, so he asked the flight attendant if he could sit somewhere else. Jackpot! So my flight was very relaxed, I slept almost the whole time, only waking up when there was food.
However, the fatigue was still visible when I arrived in St. Maarten. As soon as I stepped out of the airport door, I was greeted by a heatwave.. of course, I hadn't thought of bringing short clothes with me because it was still very cold in Germany when I left.. Fortunately, I was immediately picked up and taken to the hostel where I will be working in the near future.
On the way to the hostel, I got a tour of the island. It is very important that I know my way around to give tips to the guests. Well, I understand that, but I just had a 15-hour journey and could only think about the shower that awaited me.
In the hostel, I met a girl who had been traveling around the Caribbean for a year.
She took me to the capital, Philipsburg. The beach was incredibly beautiful and long. After that, she wanted to take the bus to Simpson Bay where her friends were waiting for her..
So I got an introduction to the world of public transport in the Caribbean: the buses drive around without scheduled times, there is a sign in the front window that shows where the bus is going. If the destination you want is on the sign, you wave and the bus stops for you. To get off, you shout stop and the bus stops. Yes, it stops, no matter where!
The two guys we met were currently renovating their boat with their grandfather to cross the Atlantic Ocean, aiming for Europe.
I was so tired that after getting myself a pack of instant Chinese food, I went straight to bed.
