Way back from the North Cape

Birt: 19.07.2017

The first milestone of our journey was reached after 24 days and deserved to be celebrated. With the intention of finding a secluded spot with a clear view of the North Coast to peacefully experience the midnight sun, we visited Gjesvær. It was definitely lonely and deserted here, but unfortunately the pleasantly warm (~18°C) and occasionally sunny day at the North Cape extended into the evening, so we didn't get to see the midnight sun. However, Gjesvær had a more lucrative offer for us besides its famous bird safari: a seafood restaurant. Since we were in Norway, we thought it would be a good opportunity to celebrate with some fresh fish. And so we had incredibly delicious salmon sandwiches, stockfish, a cream made from Arctic cloudberries and blueberries, and a fish soup that was awarded the world's best eight years ago. Everything was served on plastic furniture on a seaside terrace overlooking the nearby islands, and we had a nice chat with the owner and his daughter. The celebration was a success!

The next morning, we travelled the familiar route back to Olderfjord, with a detour to Honningsvåg. However, we didn't miss the chance to go (almost) fjord bathing near the North Cape... if we were able to reach the water thanks to low tide. As the rain increased, we headed towards Finland.
