Tag 1: Porto

I arrived here in Porto on Thursday evening. I'll spare you the details of the journey. 😉

My hostel here in Porto is the 'Best Guest Hostel Porto' and I'm very satisfied. It's centrally located, the rooms are fine, and the staff is very helpful.

On Friday, I started the day without any big plans. I like to just walk around and explore a new city. I wandered through many narrow alleys to get to the Cathedral of Porto. From here, you have a great view of the city! You can visit the cathedral and climb the tower for 3€, but I think it's optional.

Afterwards, I walked down through the many streets to the Douro River. Let me tell you, Porto is a very hilly city with lots of stairs and steep streets...

Down by the Douro, there are plenty of cafes and restaurants. From here, you can also see the famous 'Ponte Dom Luis I', one of the six bridges of Porto. I found a cafe a bit further up from the water to have a better view (yes, I had to climb more stairs...). But the view was worth it, and as a reward, I had the typical Portuguese treat 'Pasteis de Nata', a kind of custard tart and very tasty! 🙃

After a break at the hostel, I watched a live concert of Fado music. This is also typical for Portugal. Fado is played with a special guitar and accompanied by a 'normal' concert guitar. It's often sung as well. Overall, Fado sounds quite melancholic. I enjoyed it! Not just because we got some Port wine...😁 By the way, Port wine tastes very sweet and somehow spicy. It wasn't to my taste...🤷🏻‍♀️

In the evening, I strolled across the Ponte Dom Luis I to the other side of the river. It was very busy and had a great atmosphere!

Back at the hostel, I had a long discussion about the meaning of life with my French roommate...in a mix of English, German, French, and with the help of Google Translate ...right up my alley.🙂
