Welcome to Australia's Miami!
I haven't been to the real Miami myself, but others have and they say it's really similar. I had a very nice hostel in Surfers Paradise. The "Backpackers Resort Surfers Paradise" is a relatively small hostel and a family business. I was really lucky with my roommates, many Germans with whom I spent the days and celebrated Easter.
Surfers Paradise has everything tourists are looking for, a miles-long sandy beach, many shopping centers, a wide selection of restaurants and entertainment options. Personally, I felt like it was missing the charm, the flair of the city and nature. You probably have to drive further out to experience that! It was all too touristic and somehow modern. Buuuut what made me feel more positive was the Q1 Tower- a breathtaking view from up there!!!
In the evening, we went to a night market where you could try chocolate for free, which of course made our backpacker hearts beat faster :) I'm glad I went there, but 2 nights were definitely enough!
From Surfers Paradise, I went back to Brisbane where I had to change buses and took the bus to Hervey Bay. Traveling was quite exhausting, I left the hostel in Surfers at 9:45 am and arrived in Hervey Bay at 9:30 pm. And for the first time, I realized what it really means to travel alone, to always carry your luggage everywhere and no one to hold something for you or to think along! It wouldn't be true to say that I like it :D But it makes you stronger and it's an experience that I wouldn't want to miss. Soon, I'm heading to Agnes Water where I will try my hand at surfing. More about Hervey Bay and Agnes Water in the next blog post! Best regards and see you soon :*
