16/04/2023 to 17/04/2023 - Guayaquil / Ecuador

Birt: 30.04.2023

In the afternoon, we arrived by plane from Asuncion via Lima. Our accommodation was not far from the airport, and we took a short Uber ride. Suddenly, it started pouring rain and didn't stop for the rest of the day, so we didn't go out.

Guayaquil is home to the country's main port and with approximately 2.6 million inhabitants, it is one of Ecuador's largest cities. The next morning, we started early because the city has a lot to offer. We took a public bus to the city center and visited the Metropolitan Cathedral of Guayaquil. Across the street is the historic Seminario Park, better known as Iguana Park, where the city's iguanas live. We continued walking through the streets and arrived at a busy square with the Church of San Francisco and some statues depicting life in the city. The former harbor dam was converted into the Malecón 2000 waterfront promenade. With a view of the sea, several statues, and an original Guayaquil sign, it is a beautiful place to relax. We walked around the crowded streets, visited markets, had some food, and then returned to our accommodation. We haven't discovered all of the city's attractions yet, but we will come back here again.
