Aarhus, Denmark
Wednesday 08/30/23:
We arrived in Aarhus around 12 p.m. after leaving Hamburg at 6:40 a.m. First we walked to the hostel, which luckily wasn't far away. Then we set off again, even though we were both very exhausted. There was a very cool street food market in Aarhus where we grabbed a late lunch, unfortunately Hannah upset her stomach there. Afterwards we went straight back to the hostel and took a shower and then went to sleep.
On Thursday we slept in and then went for a relaxed walk to the Botanical Garden in Aarhus. It was really nice in Aarhus because everything was within walking distance. We walked for maybe 20 minutes. In the botanical garden there were various subject areas, for example desert plants or Mediterranean plants, etc. At the end we went to the "Butterfly House", although to be honest it was a bit disappointing (very few butterflies), especially compared to the Butterfly House on Mainau. After the botanical garden we split up, I went on to the museum town "Den Gamle By" and Hannah went back to the hostel to lie down again because she wasn't feeling so well. I really liked the museum city, it was divided into (I think) 5 areas in the style of different times. I actually liked the more modern parts of the city better because it was somehow so new to show modern (2014) life situations in the museum. The other parts of the city were of course also very interesting, but nothing new, I've seen something similar in other museums. I found it particularly cool that there were also small "independent" exhibitions in the Museum City area, such as a poster exhibition on the subject of climate change, or a really interesting exhibition on the history of Aarhus. After about three hours I made my way back to the hostel. I picked up Hannah there and we went to a publicly accessible roof terrace above a shopping center, from where you had a great overview of the entire city. Afterwards we went shopping for a bit and then went back to the hostel.
