One night in Bangkok - or even two...

Birt: 30.11.2018

...that's what we decided to do, and even though it sounds very short for such a metropolis like Bangkok, it was completely enough.

Bangkok was intense and a complete contrast to Singapore - not only in terms of costs. Bangkok is simply so much cheaper than Singapore and our backpacker wallet naturally loves that.

The city definitely lives up to its stereotype of hustle & bustle and crowds (in every way...). However, I didn't find Bangkok as dirty as I had expected. Of course, hygiene is different there and the handling of food can be questioned in some places, especially at the famous street food stalls. But hey - our stomachs handled it well. In general, you shouldn't look too closely at the street stalls, then the food tastes even better ;-)

To make the most of our one day in Bangkok, we took a Tuk Tuk Hop on Hop off tour of Bangkok and a boat tour. There are no typical Hop on Hop off buses in Bangkok, and once you find yourself in the city's traffic, you won't wonder why that is.

Our conclusion after the day was: a huge city, extremely crowded, fast, loud, chaotic, diverse & grey. But the best part is riding Tuk Tuks (we could do it all day. But it's not for the faint-hearted.)

We had really positive experiences with the people and we even managed to avoid being ripped off.

We stayed at the Dreamcatcher Hostel, right by Silom Road, not far from Lumphini Park and therefore super central.

By the way, Lumphini Park was the first thing we saw of Bangkok. Well, let's say only the tree tops adorned with lights, as we were there for a festival. 'Swimming with the crowd' takes on a whole new meaning there :-)

Now here are a few impressions in pictures. I would love to upload videos because they can better reflect what Bangkok is like.
