Among the loud noises of eating in China, there are certainly other typical behaviors that I find hard to get used to. One of them is the nighttime flood of light on sections of roads. Strong headlights are used at night in camera zones and speed checks, which are then perceived by unsuspecting drivers as incoming landing airplanes; the illumination is that bright. I would have to navigate the following hundred meters as a blind driver. However, one can prepare for this (perhaps with sunglasses?), just like for the mandatory drinking of large quantities of Baijiu (spirits) during meals, which I approach by mentioning that I drink little alcohol and thus can toast with other beverages.
