On Wednesday, 18.12., I took the bus from Montreal to Ottawa at noon. I arrived around 3:00 PM and went straight to the hostel to drop off my backpack.
I spent the rest of the day walking around the city. Ottawa is located in the province of Ontario and is the 6th largest city in the country with just under a million inhabitants.
Just like in my previous Canadian cities, there is also a castle-like luxury hotel of the Fairmont chain here. Located directly on the water, it is a popular tourist attraction.
Across the street is a national war memorial. It commemorates the 116,000 soldiers who have fallen since World War I.
On Parliament Hill, among other things, is the building of the Canadian Parliament. I went back there in the following days to take a closer look. The picture shows the so-called Peace Tower, a bell tower. It is 92 meters high and stands, as the name suggests, for peace. In the summer, a changing of the guard takes place here every day.
The city is located on the Ottawa River, which also separates the province of Quebec and Ontario. Here, I watched the sunset and had a view of Parliament Hill from behind.
In the evening, I explored bars with a few other hostel guests.
