Upon arriving in Cairns, we were excited for the booked snorkeling tour in the Great Barrier Reef. After a 90-minute boat ride with rough waves, we arrived at the platform. While Roman went snorkeling, Linda explored the underwater observatory beneath the floos. As a highlight, we decided to go for a dive with an underwater helmet at a depth of 6 meters. An unforgettable experience!
We spent our Christmas day with a train ride through the Daintree Rainforest to Kuranda - a small village in the middle of the jungle. Afterwards, we returned over the treetops with the cable car.
To get into the Christmas spirit, we had a fun evening with two new friends. We had vegan coconut curry, a typical Australian pavlova, and a few bottles of wine.
We continued to Airlie Beach, where we rewarded ourselves with a scenic flight over the Whitsunday Islands and the Great Barrier Reef. (A slightly different Christmas present :) )
We spent New Year's Eve in a small town called Mackay, where we had a nice fireworks display.
Now we are spending the last days in Brisbane, from where our flight to New Zealand departs on January 6th.
Grateful for the many beautiful experiences, we are now leaving Australia and are ready for our next big adventure: New Zealand.
