Drug art on Lake Taupo

Naipablaak: 17.12.2017

In the morning we drive to the boat harbor on Lake Taupo. For 29 dollars (about 20fr) per person, we sail on the lake for 2.5 hours. Unfortunately, the weather today is not particularly nice, cloudy and with some light rain. Nevertheless, we enjoy our trip. The highlight is the face that was carved into the stone in the 70s. The artists worked on it for four summers and were mostly stoned, drunk, or on drugs. In addition to the meter-high face, other figures can be seen in the stone. The longer you look, the more you can recognize, like a mermaid.
When we return, it is already noon and we are almost starving!
In a cozy restaurant, we have pork belly burgers and a coffee, for, I can hardly believe it, 10 francs. Unbeatable!
Well-nourished, we continue through the diverse and beautiful nature of New Zealand. Our destination: Mordor!

On the way to Tongariro National Park, we take a walk to a small waterfall, it's a pity that it's too cold for swimming! Just before our destination, we check into a campsite to make sure we have a spot, and then continue up the mountain or volcano for a little while. It's incredible how quickly the landscape changes from green forests to barren black volcanic rock. The drive takes your breath away because we've never seen such a landscape before. We park next to a ski lift, it's hard to imagine that people ski here in the winter, on all this rock.
Off to Mordor!
Of course, we take our obligatory selfies and admire the black cliffs.
Back at our campsite, we have pie, salad, and sleep ;)
